Education Assistant – Upper Primary
Full-time (8:15am to 3:30pm), from 20 July 2026.
Perth Montessori is seeking a full-time education assistant to join our Primary 9 to 12 environment. This role supports the Montessori teacher and contributes to a prepared, purposeful and respectful learning environment for students. Working within the Montessori framework, the education assistant helps maintain an atmosphere of calm, independence and purposeful activity while providing practical support to both students and teachers.
Training and/or experience working in a Montessori environment is highly advantageous.
Key responsibilities
Working with teachers and staff
- Support the class teacher with classroom management by proactively monitoring classroom activity, responding to student needs and protecting lesson time.
- Collaborate effectively with the teacher to implement learning plans and support students to achieve individual and group goals.
- Record observations and support documentation as directed by the teacher.
- Direct family inquiries about student learning, behaviour or classroom activities to the teacher, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Work respectfully and collaboratively as part of the broader Primary and whole-school team.
- Participate in and/or contribute to school activities from time to time, including camps, excursions, concerts, sporting activities, clubs, parent education evenings and community events.
Working with students
- Support students aged 9 to 12 in a way that is consistent with Montessori philosophy, including respect for independence, concentration, choice and responsibility.
- Support small groups and individuals with the learning.
- Model grace and courtesy in all interactions with students.
- Move calmly and quietly within the learning environment, avoiding unnecessary interruption to students at work.
- Set clear expectations and limits in a calm and respectful manner.
- Support students to develop independence, organisation, social responsibility and care for the environment.
- Provide additional support to students with diverse learning, social, emotional or developmental needs.
- Administer first aid and provide pastoral care as required.
- Undertake lunch supervision and yard duty according to the school roster.
Care of the environment
- Assist in maintaining a clean, ordered and purposeful Montessori environment.
- Support students to care for classroom materials, manage their belongings and maintain their workspaces.
- Assist with the preparation, organisation and care of classroom materials and supplies.
- Undertake discreet cleaning, tidying and resetting of the environment throughout the day as needed.
- Contribute to the smooth daily functioning of the classroom and wider Primary environment.
Qualifications, skills and experience
- Certificate III or IV in Education Support, Early Childhood Education and Care, School Based Education Support or similar is essential.
- Current Working With Children Check or ability to obtain one.
- Experience working with primary-aged children.
- Training and/or experience in a Montessori environment is highly advantageous.
- Shared values and expectations in working with children that align with Montessori philosophy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- An understanding of neurodivergence and other differences that may impact student success at school.
- A calm, respectful and professional manner.
- Commitment to child safety, inclusion and the wellbeing of all students.

High School Teacher – Maths, PE & Health and Montessori Adolescent Program
Perth Montessori School is seeking a flexible, adaptable and student-centred High School Teacher to join our Adolescent Program for six months from Term 3, 2026 with the possibility of an ongoing position from 2027.
This is a varied teaching role that includes responsibility for Mathematics, Physical Education and Health, alongside broader work as a Montessori adolescent generalist. The successful applicant will support students across community-based projects, practical work, work cycle activities and individual learning goals.
The role would suit a teacher who enjoys working collaboratively, is comfortable responding to the needs of students and colleagues, and values purposeful, hands-on learning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Teaching Mathematics, Physical Education and Health to high school students
- Supporting students to complete work connected to community-based and project-based learning
- Assisting with the planning and delivery of practical, interdisciplinary learning experiences
- Working collaboratively with the Adolescent Program team
- Supporting students’ independence, organisation and engagement
- Contributing to the broader life of the school community, including community work and school events
The successful applicant will:
- Be a registered teacher, or eligible for registration, in Western Australia
- Have experience or confidence teaching Mathematics at high school level
- Be willing to teach Physical Education and Health
- Be flexible, practical and responsive in their approach
- Work well as part of a close and collaborative team
- Have an interest in Montessori education, adolescent development and project-based learning
- Be willing to support students beyond traditional classroom teaching
Montessori experience is highly desirable, but not essential. A willingness to learn and work within the Montessori philosophy is important.
