With meaningful work, strong relationships, and real responsibility, students develop not just academic skills, but the mindset and confidence to step into adult life with clarity and direction.

Perth Montessori School is inviting Expressions of Interest from current Year 10 students interested in joining our Senior Adolescent Program in 2027.

The Big Picture pathway is designed for motivated, curious and self-directed learners who are excited by project-based work and want a rigorous senior secondary experience without the pressure of traditional exams and tests.

Students work with an advisory teacher to pursue meaningful projects, build a portfolio of learning and connect their studies with real-world interests and opportunities.

Real-world learning for a changing world  

The adolescent years are a time of rapid growth, deep questioning, and expanding social awareness. Young people begin to ask: Who am I? What matters to me? How can I contribute? Our program is designed to honour and support this critical developmental stage.  

At Perth Montessori, adolescents learn by doing. They engage in purposeful, hands-on work that helps them develop real-world skills and confidence. Whether preparing meals, supporting younger students, running our café, or engaging in community projects – learning happens through action, reflection, and connection.  

A Learning Framework that Makes Sense  

Our approach is grounded in Montessori philosophy and shaped by the Big Picture Learning design. This means students are active participants in shaping their individual learning pathways, with support from dedicated advisors, mentors, and community connections.  

Students undertake projects driven by their interests, complete real-world internships, and build a deep understanding of themselves and the world around them. Learning is integrated, rigorous, and always meaningful.

Students study an integrated academic program aligned with the West Australian  

Curriculum, including:  

Subject content is woven through inquiry, project work, and presentations – helping students develop skills in critical thinking, creativity, and communication.  

Recognising What Really Matters  

In Years 11 and 12, students work towards the International Big Picture Learning Credential (IBPLC) – a globally recognised, non-ATAR qualification.  

Instead of a single exam, students are assessed on what they know, can do, make, say, and write, using evidence drawn from their own work. The IBPLC values personal growth, deep learning, and real-world achievement – and is accepted by universities, training providers, and employers across Australia and internationally.  

It’s a credential that puts the person back into assessment – allowing each student’s unique strengths, passions, and potential to shine through.
